The study projects on ants on this website describe observations and preliminary conclusions in the context of a larger a personally initiated research project on supercolonies of mount building woodants. Since 1992 more than 2000 domes of woodants, mainly Formica polyctena, are mapped and about 1500 are monitored. Sightings are recorded, including photo´s, coördinates and remarks on environment, disturbance and meteorology.
The observations which have resulted in questions are grouped into ´study projects´. These are described on next pages folowed by (preliminary) conclusions.
These results lead to a beter understanding of the behaviour of wood ants, giving tools for better monitoring, protection and education.
