The influence of solar power on the sunbathing behaviour.
Back to (sub) projects
When weather conditions are right, the wood ants ‘wake up’ from their biopause and start walk outside the nest. The first steps outside are made with a minimal temperature of 5,5ºC and a solar energy of 200 W/m2. The sunbathing behaviour seems to follow when surface temperature reaches 28ºC.
Energy absorbtion by the nest’s surface depends on it’s material and the angle of the nest’s dome.
